Battle re-enactments in Gettysburg postponed

Update, June 29

The Gettysburg Anniversary Re-enactment has been postponed until August 7-9.

Event organizers said heavy amounts of rain in June, especially in the days leading up to the event, have made the fields unable to withstand the vehicle and pedestrian traffic expected for the event.

The site of the movie "Gettysburg" will serve as the backdrop for this year's 152nd Gettysburg Anniversary Re-enactment July 3-5.

The re-enactors will conduct five battle re-enactments over those three days including live mortar demonstrations. There will be field demonstrations, a living history village, Civil War music, period religious services and several Civil War weddings. Visitors are also invited to walk through the military camps and interact with the re-enactors.

Grandstand seating on Saturday and Sunday typically sells out in advance, so order early at www.gettysburgreenactment.com. There's also general admission.

At 8:30 p.m. July 4, the Patriotic Pops Concert will begin at the Gettysburg College Memorial Field, located off of Constitution Avenue. The fireworks displays will follow at 9:30 p.m. and can be viewed from Memorial Field, the Gettysburg National Military Park and surrounding area.

Food and refreshments – including craft beer and Adams County wine – will be on sale throughout the concert and fireworks.
