Patriotic music, fireworks July 4 at Gettysburg College

GETTYSBURG >> A patriotic concert and program on July 4 at Gettysburg College will include a fireworks display.

The Patriotic Pops Concert will begin at 8:30 p.m. in the college's Memorial Field, off Constitution Avenue. The concert will consist of faculty members and students from the Sunderman Conservatory of Music, along with members of the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra.

The fireworks display starts at 9:30 p.m. as the concert ends, and can be viewed from Memorial Field, Gettysburg National Military Park and the surrounding area. Fireworks are sponsored by Destination Gettysburg.

"This is an event that started as part of the 150th Anniversary commemoration in 2013, and has been a great success," said Norris Flowers, president of Destination Gettysburg. "Local residents, as well as visitors, enjoy the patriotic tribute, an event that coincides with the anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg each year.

Food and refreshments, including craft beer and Adams County wine, will be on sale throughout the concert and fireworks display.

Several commemorative events will also take place that weekend, including the Gettysburg Civil War Battle Re-enactment, July 3-5; as well as programs, tours and living history demonstrations at Gettysburg National Military Park and sites throughout town.

"It's a very busy week for Gettysburg," added Flowers. "Fireworks on the Fourth of July is something that our visitors have always wanted and it's great to see the event become such a success."
