Family festival, ice cream eating contest planned near Gettysburg

Mulligan MacDuffer Adventure Golf is holding its annual Summerfest on Saturday and Sunday in celebration of its 26th anniversary.

Festivities scheduled include raffles, free food and a scavenger hunt, according to a news release from the business. The main event, however, is the seventh annual Hershey's Ice Cream eating contest, scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday.

Pre-registration for the contest is necessary because space is limited, according to the release. There will be two age categories, one including 8- to 12-year-olds and another for participants ages 13 and over. Winners will receive a trophy and an entire year's worth of free ice cream.

Mulligan MacDuffer Adventure Golf is located at 1360 Baltimore Pike in Cumberland Township, across from Gettysburg National Military Park. Its 18-hole golf course was built by current owners Del and Nancie Gudmestad in 1989.

A portion of the proceeds MacDuffer's receives from its Summerfest will be donated to Survivors, Inc., an Adams County-based nonprofit that helps victims of domestic violence.
