Adams County Arts Council plans scavenger hunts

The Adams County Arts Council will hold two scavenger hunts in August that encourage participants to explore local businesses for art.

The events are scheduled for Aug. 8 in New Oxford and Aug. 15 in Gettysburg, according to a news release from the arts council.

Participants will match images from the event program with the participating business where they can be found, with all businesses within walking distance of the starting/ending points at The Mill in New Oxford and the Arts Council's Arts Education Center in Gettysburg.

Participating businesses in New Oxford include Body and Soul Boutique and Forget-Me-Not Framing, while Adams County Winery and Blue Parrot Bistro are some of the participating businesses in Gettysburg.

Registration for each scavenger hunt beings at noon, with the hunts starting at 1 p.m. and ending at 4 p.m.

Cash prizes, sponsored by Arts Council president Darlene Brown, of $100, $50 and $25 will be awarded, according to the release.

This is the second year the Arts Council has held a scavenger hunt. The nonprofit organized its first hunt last summer in Gettysburg as a way to give back to the community.
