Strawberry Hill hosts Community Day for families


FAIRFIELD >> Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve, 1537 Mt. Hope Road, opens its doors each fall as a family fun day during its membership meeting. The fundraising event will feature a beef and beer dinner, live music, a free family movie and activities and new facility ground breaking.

Performing will be the four-piece rock band Schizophonic, recreating music from the classic rock era. Mike Orenzoff, Ray Biba combine two guitars, drums and vocals, with Pat McKim rounding out the sound on bass. The group produces faithful reproductions of rock songs from artists such as Pink Floyd, The Talking Heads, The Who, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin and more.

The 4 p.m. fundraising dinner will offer a pork and beef barbecue by Frontier BBQ, Fairfield, with beer supplied by Appalachian Brewing Co., Gettysburg. Dinner includes sides of cole slaw, baked beans and more.

Cost is $20 in advance for ages 13 and older, $25 at the door; cost is $10 for ages 12 and younger.

An additional ice cream sundae bar, with ice cream from Mr. G's, Gettysburg, costs $5 for two scoops plus your favorite toppings.

Following dinner will be the membership meeting, and a ground breaking ceremony at 5.

Music is set to begin at 5:15 and will continue to 7:40. For children, there will be games and a team challenge.

Beginning at 7, the film "The Lorax" will be shown outdoors near the pink log cabin.

A raffle drawing for a hand-crafted wood carving by Jason Stoner of Chain Effect will end the day. Tickets are $25 a tickets and only 100 will be sold.
