5 things to do in the Hanover area this weekend

It’s Friday, the weekend is finally here, and the weather forecast looks sunny and clear.

What will you be doing this weekend? Here is a quick list of five fun-filled activities to get you started.

Helping Little Hands

Support a charity and have fun doing it. The fourth annual Helping Little Hands Rock and Ride Benefit will be held Friday and Saturday at Moose Park in Gettysburg, and all proceeds benefit Penn State Hershey's Children's Hospital. The event is open to the public and costs $20 to enter the grounds. The event features 14 bands over two days, drinks, food vendors, bikes, and a charity ride. Registration for the charity ride is from 9-10:45 a.m. at Battlefield Harley Davidson, 21 Calvary Field Rd.

Take in some rooftop music

Stop by the Guthrie Memorial Library from 7-9 p.m. Friday to watch Class Act with singer Tashia Koontz perform on the roof as part of the Summer Nights at the Library series. Snacks will be provided, and refreshments such as water, wine and soda will be available for purchase. Admission for the event is $10.

Calling all art lovers

The final day of the second annual Open Art Exhibit is Friday, Aug. 26. The event, sponsored by the Hanover Area Arts Guild, features dozens of talented artists. Stop by the gallery at 32 Carlisle St. for light refreshments and to meet the artists.

Wine tasting for a cause

Here is one for the thirsty folks out there looking to support a great cause. Various musicians, wineries, food vendors, independent vendors, and a kid’s area can be found at BARk's Wine Tasting in the Park event from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Elickers Grove Park in Spring Grove. The cost of admission is $15 (includes wine glass and two raffle tickets), or $10 for designated drivers (pets welcome). Bring a donation for the Needy Pet Drive Campaign or for Vets & Pet's and receive additional raffle tickets.

Proceeds benefit Borough Animal Response krew (BARk). The West York-based volunteer group responds to calls of pets lost, found, injured, abused or trapped. Visit BARk's website for more details.

Sunday Funday

Looking for a chill, fun, relaxing Sunday? Head over to Legend’s Food and Drink at 304 Poplar St. for an acoustic open mic night for the whole family from 5-9 p.m. hosted by Wayne Beck.
