Out and About in Lebanon: From car shows to corn mazes, fall is here


LEBANON >> You have a potpourri of fall activities this week from which to choose - whether you're 'into' classic car shows, local theater productions, tractor pulls, hot rock music, or living history, you'll have plenty to do. It's time to stroll through area corn mazes, too - fun for everybody!

TONIGHT, 7:30 P.M. >> The Lebanon Community Theatre will present "Hello Dolly!" in the theatre in Stoever's Dam Park, Theatre Drive, Lebanon. The play will also run Sat., Sept.11, and Sept. 12, 17, 18 and 19. On Sept. 13 and 20, the play will begin at 2:30 p.m. For tickets, call 273-5151. 9 A.M. FRIDAY >> An autumn tradition - the 2015 Corn Maze at Sycamore Spring Orchard, 2501 Heilmandale Road, Jonestown, is now open! Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Cost is $6 per person and that includes a drink or ice cream when you finish the maze.

10 A.M. FRIDAY >> Come on down! And buy tickets for "The Price Is Right Live!" which will be coming to the Hershey Theatre on Tuesday, Nov.3 at 8 p.m. "The Price Is Right Live!" is the hit interactive stage show that gives eligible individuals chances to win prizes like appliances, vacations, and possibly a new car! Play classic games from television's longest running game show.

10 a.m. Friday >> Explore the many wonders of chocolate this fall with new events at Hershey's Chocolate World. New for 2015, sample special seasonal desserts at the "Flavors of Fall Dessert Festival." Venture to five locations inside Hershey's Chocolate World and enjoy a new dessert at each stop. This tasty event begins Friday and runs every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until Nov.1 during operating hours. Tickets are $9.95 each and can be purchased at the central ticketing counter.

NOON FRIDAY >> Thinking about New Year's Day? Tickets go on sale today for a performance by actor and comedian Kevin Hart, who has added Hershey to his "What Now?" tour. Hart will be at the Giant Center on New Year's Day at 7 p.m. Tickets for this show range from $62.35 to $128.35 and there is an eight-ticket limit. 4 P.M. FRIDAY >> The fun's not over, with a "Fall Faire" happening at the Bethel Fairgrounds this weekend. On Friday, the entertainment will be "Restless," and on Saturday, the bands will be "Common Ground" and :"Frayed Nott." Both days, the fair will be open until 10 p.m. On Saturday, the fairgrounds open at noon. The fair includes raffles, games, rides for the kids, and lots of good food. Free admission.

7 P.M. FRIDAY >> A Patriot Day Concert will be held by the Lebanon Community Concert Band in the auditorium of Lebanon High School, 1000 S. 7 P.M. FRIDAY >> A truck and tractor pull and truck show, "Thunder at the Expo" will be held at the Lebanon Valley Expo Center and fairgrounds at 80 Rocherty Road. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for those age 12 and above; $5 for ages 6 to 12; and under 6, free. Food will be available and there is free parking. 7 P.M. FRIDAY >> The classic rock sounds of "Down To Earth" will fill the night at Legends Cafe, 9 South Ninth Street, Lebanon. The band will play until 9 p.m. For more information, go to:www.legendscafe.org.

9 P.M. FRIDAY >> For anyone who likes classic rock, check out the Temple Fire Company, where the Mike Schwartz Band will be playing. Formerly the Skid Marks, the Mike Schwartz Band will be playing from 9 p.m. to midnight. This event is open to the public, so come on out and have a good time. FRIDAY >> With the tagline "nothing is impossible," you know comedy magician Joel Meyers will put on a great show when he comes to town for the "Friday Night Comedy Series" at Lebanon Valley College in Annville. Meyers boasts an impressive resume, having performed everywhere from TV to Fortune 500 companies. The show will be held in the Leedy Theater in the Mund College Center. SATURDAY >> A book and bake sale to benefit the Myerstown Community Library will be held on the pavilion of Friedens Lutheran Church at the intersection of Locust Street (Route 645) and Route 422 in Myerstown. 10 A.M. SATURDAY >> The Historic Schaefferstown Harvest Fair will usher out the summer and welcome fall at the Alexander Schaeffer Farm at 213 S. Carpenter St. in Schaefferstown. The Harvest Fair will continue on Sunday, Sept. 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $5, with children under 12, free. Enjoy craftsmen demonstrating 18th century skills. Guided tours of the Schaeffer house and garden are available. Wagon rides and games are on hand for the kids, and there will be music from the Colonial time period. 7 P.M. SATURDAY >> If you're getting nostalgic for those lazy, lay-on-the-beach days of summer, head on out to Legends Cafe for the mellow music of "Scott Fagan and the Mac Island Band." SATURDAY >> The international hit, "Let It Be- A Celebration of the Music of the Beatles" will make its debut at the Hershey Theatre on Thursday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. With this exciting show, Beatles fans will be able to relive their memories, listening to the music that defined a generation. 4 P.M. SATURDAY >> The 12th Annual Rehrersburg Car Show will be held on the Main Street of Rehrersburg, between routes 501 and 419. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the band "Restless" will be performing. This event is a fund-raiser for the Rehrersburg Fire Company. Lasting until 9 p.m., the event includes door prizes, a silent auction, flea market, and plenty of food. 11 A.M. SUNDAY >> The 14th annual Car Show and Cruise-In Concert will take place in the Womelsdorf Town Park, High and Water streets. From 2 to 5 p.m., the 50s and 60s music of "Flamin Dick and the Hot Rods" will fill the park. More than 300 vintage cars are expected. Admission is free and food is available.

NOON SUNDAY >> Friends of the Conrad Weiser Homestead will offer guided tours of the 18th century Indian guide's home, just east of Womelsdorf, from noon to 3 p.m. for an "interpretive Sunday." The tours will begin hourly. Guests will also learn about a woman's domestic duties during the 18th century. The event is free and open to the public.

10 A.M. FRIDAY, SEPT. 18 >> The Trans-Siberian Orchestra will be on the road with their 2015 Winter Tour and will be making a stop at the Giant Center on Friday, Dec. 18, to present a Yuletide tale called "The Ghosts of Christmas Eve" at 4 p.m. and again, at 8 p.m. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra is well-known for their melding of rock, traditional ballads and Broadway that creates their one-of-a-kind music.

1 p.m. Sat., Sept. 19 >> If you get told to go climb a rock it's not at all like being told to go fly a kite. For an introduction to "bouldering," check out the Governor Dick Environmental Center at 3283 Pinch Road in Mt. Gretna. This is a class for beginning rock climbers of all ages. 1:30 P.M. SUNDAY, SEPT. 20 >> Who doesn't want to count butterflies? Be a part of the Monarch Butterfly Migration Count with the folks of the Governor Dick Environmental Center on Pinch Road in Mt. Gretna. Meet at the center; participants will then hike to Tower Meadow. Bring binoculars. This is a "sunshine" only event. Call 964-3808 to pre-register.

3 P.M. SUNDAY, SEPT.20 >> The Lebanon County Community Concert will begin its 82nd season by honoring composer Harold Arlen, with a concert entitled "The Wonderful Wizard of Song." The concert will be held in the William Starr Auditorium in Lebanon High School at 1000 South Eighth Street. A multi-talented cast accompanied by piano and bass will provide the music of classics such as "That Old Black Magic," "Stormy Weather," and "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." 11 A.M. SAT., SEPT. 26 >> If you're interested in learning a "new" skill from Colonial Days, head over to the Cornwall Iron Furnace property where a cast-iron cooking demonstration will take place. The event is free and open to the public. Members of the Friends of Cornwall Iron Furnace will demonstrate how to cook ham and hot doughnuts over an open fire, using Dutch ovens. Free samples of the food will be available. Cook books for campfire cooking are available and the museum and gift shop will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for tours and shopping. 7 P.M. SAT., SEPT. 26 >> The rock band "The Rockers" will headline a night at the Womelsdorf Fire Company. From classic rock to contemporary, these guys will keep the night hoppin.'

4 P.M. SUNDAY, NOV. 22 >> Tickets are on sale now for the Susquehanna Chorale Annual Youth Choral Festival to be held in Messiah College's High Center at One College Avenue, Mechanicsburg. Performances by three different chorale groups will celebrate the transformative power of song. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and $5 for students.
