Lancaster events are Something to Crow About

Something to Crow About will celebrate its second year with a series of cultural events to mark the migration of crows to Lancaster for the winter.

The art shows, educational programs and business tie-ins throughout January and February create an awareness of the birds’ seasonal appearance in the region. Tens of thousands of crows return to the city to roost and often get a bad rap, said David Strange, CEO of Crows 'R Us, in a press release.

The event series puts a positive spin on a situation that ruffles the feathers of residents and businesses.

This year will feature crow, raven and blackbird themed art exhibits, lectures, a Haiku poetry contest and more at Lancaster area galleries, museums and libraries.

Highlights include Lancaster's Second Annual All-Crow Art Show at the Manheim Township Public Library Jan. 15 to Feb 19, and an Amazing Crow Walk and Talk at 10 a.m. Feb. 6 at the Lancaster County Parks Environmental Center.

The Bad Blackbird Ball and Masquerade is set for 9:30 p.m. Jan. 16 at The Villlage Nightclub and will feature AC/DC tribute band Back in Black. Admission is $5 if you wear a crow mask.

Local restaurants, gift shops and music stores are partnering with the cultural initiative by offering crow-themed specials on services and merchandise, including a $5 Crazy Crow Gyro at Spyro Gyros in downtown Lancaster.
