Out and About: See former 'Nashville Star' contestant Chris Young at American Music Theatre


A country music star coming to American Music Theatre, a full day to spend at Governor Dick Environmental Center, and already something to put on your Labor Day weekend calendar. More on those events and another look at what's happening around the area.

A Grammy and ACM award-winning country singer/songwriter Chris Young is coming to American Music Theatre. You remember him from when he first grabbed the country music biz’s attention on “Nashville Star” in 2006. Since then, his career has taken off, and he’ll be performing in the area Saturday, May 28 at 8 p.m. All tickets are $79. Be sure to plan a full day at Governor Dick Environmental Center Sunday, June 5. First at 8 a.m. is a Fitness Hike, which is fast-paced for four to six miles. Then from 1 to 4 p.m., it's another afternoon of “Music on the Porch” with bluegrass and old country-style music jam. Be sure to bring a lawn chair. The Allen Theatre Chess Club will meet again Tuesday, May 31. Anyone interested in playing should meet at the theater, located at 36 E. Main St. in Annville. The event will be held from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

Dance the night away again at Metropolitan Area Dance Club. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with music and dancing starting at 7 p.m. and will go on until 10 p.m. If you’re a new dancer, admission for your first night is free. For more information, call 774-2171.
