7 things to do in York this weekend

As the kids get ready to go back to school, you're probably looking for one last hurrah of summer.

And here it is. From beach parties to wine festivals to boat parades, you can take your pick this weekend.

Here are seven things to do in York County.

Beach Party

Couldn't make it to the beach this summer? No worries. This weekend, Mudhook Brewing Co. is bringing the beach to York. Relax at a table with your toes in the sand, listen to live music and sip special beer cocktails Friday or Saturday night. Details here.

Central Market

If you're going shopping at Central Market Saturday morning, you're in for a treat. York Symphony Orchestra director and violinist Lawrence Golan will perform four 15-minute sets of "Autumn" from Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" from 10 a.m. to noon in the dining area of the market. Details here. While you're there, check out these nine must-try foods from Central Market.

See a play

OrangeMite Studios' rustic red barn with its view of a scenic pasture is a beautiful place to see a play. While the theater has no elaborate stage lighting or sound system, the balcony, trap door and rustic wooden look make it the perfect place to see a 19th century play like "Cyrano de Bergerac." "Cyrano," which opens this weekend, is the first-ever non-Shakespeare play OrangeMite will perform. Get your tickets while you still can, and check out a list of more plays in the region here.

Fiddle Festival

Have you heard of York County's 55-year fiddle tradition? This Saturday, more than 1,500 concert-goers and musicians from all over the mid-Atlantic region will come to York County Fiddler's Convention at the Fiddler Association's facility near Brogue. Details here.

Sweet Corn Festival

This festival at Newberrytown Peddlers Market in Conewago Township is full of fresh sweet corn on the cob, chicken corn soup and more corn-related treats. The market, open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, is also a great place to find fresh, local produce, crafts and collectibles. Admission and parking are free. For more information, call 717-932-4264 or visit newberrytownpeddlersmarket.com.

Creek Fire

Sit back, relax and enjoy an illuminated art boat parade and live entertainment from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Foundry Park. Details here.

Wine for Whiskers

Sip some wine and support the kitties at this Seven Valleys wine tasting event. From 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, you can enjoy $5 wine tastings at Four Springs Winery, 50 Main St., Seven Valleys. One dollar of each ticket will be donated to Heavenly Paws Animal Shelter, a no-kill stray cat rescue in Seven Valleys. Make sure you bring these nifty wine tasting cards with you so you can keep track of your favorites. Details here.
