6 things to do in York this weekend

Summer might be coming to a close, but it's still warm enough to enjoy outdoor movies, festivals and fairs this weekend.

Here are six things to do in York County.

Drive-in movie

Penn State York is hosting a free drive-in movie night, complete with free popcorn Friday night. The event begins with a showing of Disney's "Inside Out" at 7:30 p.m., followed by "Jurassic World" at 9:30 p.m. Parking is available in the lower parking lot behind the Pullo Center. Details here.

York Fair

This weekend is your last chance to see a pig race, eat some funnel cake or go to a concert at the York Fair. The 250th celebration comes to a close on Sunday with a free concert by "American Idol" finalist Lauren Alaina and a fireworks display at dusk. Other performers this weekend include Andy Grammer and American Authors Friday night and Alabama Saturday night. Details here.

Haunted house

Several of the region's haunted houses are now open for the season. You can experience the urban legend of an 1800s mental asylum at Halloween Park in York Haven, or if you're up for a drive, check out the zombie safari hayride at Shocktoberfest in Sinking Spring. At this attraction, you'll not only witness zombies up close, you'll also have the chance to shoot them with a paintball gun if they attack. Details here.

Family festival

Free, family-friendly entertainment is coming to York at the Central Penn Parent Family Festival Saturday at Cousler Park, 1060 Church Road in Manchester Township. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., attendees can listen to live music and enjoy educational programs, pony rides, a petting zoo, bounce houses, crafts, costumed characters and more.
