October 2015: Events in the York and Hanover area


October starts with an annual tradition of exhibits, shopping, prizes and more as the Women's Show returns to the York Expo Center Oct. 3 and 4, while the National Apple Harvest Festival will celebrate apples the first two weekends in October at the South Mountain Fairgrounds in Biglerville. Visit Dillsburg Oct. 12 through 17 to check out the Annual Farmer's Fair, and delicious oysters will be available Oct. 18 during the Oyster Festival at the Agricultural & Industrial Museum in Downtown York. Tricks and treats wrap up the month as Halloween in the Park takes place Oct. 23 and 24 at Codorus State Park in Hanover, and the York Halloween Parade makes its way through York City on Oct. 25.

Oct. 3

Enjoy a girlfriends' day out from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 3 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Women's Show at Memorial Hall at the York Expo Center, 334 Carlisle Ave., West Manchester Township. Take advantage of shopping, exhibits, health and fitness demonstrations, prizes and more. Admission is $4, but attendees can present a Weis Markets Preferred Shopper's Club Card at the door for free admission or download a free ticket by logging on to wycr-fm.com.

Oct. 7

Hear Hotel California — A Salute to the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, 50 N. George St., York. Oct. 10

Celebrate the best of the apple harvest from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 3 and 4, and Oct. 10 and 11 at the National Apple Harvest Festival at South Mountain Fairgrounds in Biglerville, 615 Narrows Road, near historic Gettysburg. The festival is held rain or shine and includes hundreds of arts and crafts dealers, demonstrations, contests, food stands, and entertainment. Oct. 12

Enjoy antique displays, flea markets, kids' activities, games and more Oct. 12 through 17, with various events throughout downtown Dillsburg. The Annual Dillsburg Farmers' Fair will also include parades, a craft fair and a baking contest. Visit dillsburgfarmersfair.org for more information.

Oct. 18

Treat yourself to delicious oysters and more from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 18 at The Agricultural & Industrial Museum, 217 W. Princess St., York. The York Heritage Oyster Festival will offer stewed, nude and fried oysters, baked goods and more. Additional activities include artisan demonstrations, gallery walks, live music by The Wild Hymns, and more. Visit yorkheritage.org for details.

Oct. 23

Join the Friends of Codorus State Park for Halloween in the Park, featuring hayrides and other activities from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 23 and 24 at Codorus State Park, 1066 Blooming Grove Road, Hanover. Oct. 25

The Annual York Halloween Parade starts at 2 p.m. Oct. 25, heading down Market Street, from Richland Avenue through downtown York to Broad Street. The theme for this year's parade is "Proud Past, Strong Future," and entrants are encouraged to convey York County's accomplishments in their float designs and marching drills. The Family Entertainment Zone will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. with inflatables, games, activities and music. Visit yorkhalloweenparade.com for details.
