York College's 'Perspectives on Peace' exhibit open through Nov. 14

"Perspectives on Peace," a new art exhibit that communicates aspects of peace rather than symbolic representations, opened this week at York College.

Co-curators Matthew and Shelly Clay-Robison chose works of art that actively show positive peace, negative peace, interpersonal peace, intrapersonal peace, structural peace or rebuilding both physically and emotionally after a violent conflict, according to a news release. Matthew Clay-Robison is York College's art gallery director, and Shelly Clay-Robison is an adjunct behavioral science faculty member.

The exhibit includes works by contemporary artists, such as Sarah Maple, Hank Willis Thomas and Terence Nance, Luba Lukova, Gaia, Rita Duffy and more, the release said.

A free panel discussion called "Art and Conflict" will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14 in the DeMeester Recital Hall. A reception will follow in the Evelyn and Earle Wolf Hall lobby. Both events are open to the public.

The "Perspectives on Peace" exhibit will remain open through Nov. 14 in the York College Galleries at Evelyn and Earle Wolf Hall.

Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
