Light Up Night to kick off holidays in downtown York


Downtown York kicks off the holiday season with Light Up Night Dec. 4.

At 6:15 p.m., guests will be invited to gather around Continental Square for a tree-lighting ceremony, according to a news release.

Following the ceremony, guests will have the opportunity to visit with Santa and take a free photo, courtesy of Tyler Brown Photography.

Additional holiday festivities will take place from 5 to 8 p.m.

Highlights include:

  • A Holiday Showcase at Continental Square, featuring local performance groups, including Greater York Dance, Weary Arts Group, William Penn High School's Dance Ensemble, members of the William Penn High School Music Department and more
  • Strathmeyer Christmas Trees for sale at Mudhook Brewing Co. and Central Market York in Cherry Lane
  • Winterfest Craft Fair in Cherry Lane, held Friday and Saturday by Yorshoppes
  • Dinner with the Elves at Mezzogiorno in Central Market York
  • Central Market York shopping area for children to purchase small gifts for family members 
  • Toys for Tots of York will collect new, unwrapped toys
  • Complimentary hot chocolate, courtesy of Salvation Army
  • Members 1st Federal Credit Union prize wheel at Continental Square
  • Free glow necklaces from York Sprint
  • Free face painting by Luz and free holiday-themed balloon twist hats
  • York First Moravian Church’s Christmas Putz display (6, 6:45, 7:30, 8:15 p.m.)
  • Christ Lutheran Church open house
  • Crafts and visits with Santa at Martin Library (6:45 to 8 p.m.)
  • Free professional photos with Santa at Martin Library (6:45 to 8 p.m.)
  • Teen-friendly musical entertainment by Weary Arts Group inside the offices of Downtown Inc.
  • Christmas caroling by St. Patrick Catholic Church & School in various downtown locations following the tree lighting ceremony
