5 things to do in York this weekend


York is full of holiday spirit this weekend. Here are five fun events to attend in the county.

Light Up Night

Downtown York kicks off the holiday season with the lighting of York's Christmas tree Friday night. The ceremony begins at 6:15 p.m., and will be followed by free photos with Santa at Martin Library. First Friday holiday festivities, including holiday concerts, shopping, Christmas cookies and free hot chocolate, will also take place at participating downtown locations from 5 to 9 p.m. Find a list of First Friday events here.

Try Black Cap Brewing Co.'s new anniversary beer

Red Lion's Black Cap Brewing Co. celebrates it's one-year anniversary Friday with live music, giveaways and an anniversary beer – a twist on a customer favorite. The event will last from 3 to 10 p.m. at Black Cap Brewing Co., 5 W. High St., Red Lion. Get more details here.

The Hip Nut

"The Nutcracker" like you've never seen it before comes to the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center Saturday at 7 p.m. This multi-cultural version of "The Nutcracker," set in 2015, will include old-school and new-school hip hop, jazz, contemporary, salsa and even Bollywood music and dancing.  Read more about the show here.

Holiday Bandit Bazaar 

Get some holiday shopping in this weekend at Royal Square's holiday gift market. The event, set for 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, will b ring vendors from Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and more to The Bond, 134 E. King St., York. Live music by Ben & Joe and six food trucks will also be available. Get more details here.

See a Kable House show

Nashville singer-songwriter Joe Fletcher & The Wrong Reasons will take the Kable House stage Saturday night with special guest August John Lutz II. The show, which begins at 8 p.m., will be Kable House's last show before the holidays. Get details here.
