York's FestivIce to build 40-yard ice slide

York's winter festival is moving downtown -- and plans to set up a 40-yard ice slide for the occasion. FestivIce, which was at Santander Stadium last year, will be in the Market District from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 16.

DiMartino Ice Company of Jeanette will build the ice slide through the center of Cherry Lane Park, and children will be able to toboggan down with the purchase of an amusement ticket. How cool is that?

Live ice sculpting, music, food and kids activities will take over Beaver Street and Cherry Lane. Also, be on the lookout for the event mascot: The FestivIce Yeti. Stay warm with a bowl of chili from the York Jaycees. Some Central Market vendors will remain open for the entire event.

Bands will take the stage outside of White Rose Bar & Grill on Beaver Street and Towson Steele will play outside of Mudhook Brewing Company from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. near Cherry Lane Park.

Toast your own s’mores over any of the four fire pits throughout Beaver Street and Cherry Lane. S’more kits can be purchased for $6 and include a Hershey’s chocolate bar, two jumbo s’moremallows, two packs of graham crackers and a roasting skewer. A portion of the proceeds benefits Special Olympics York County.

Admission is free. Amusement tickets for kids will be $3 per attraction or $8 for an all-access wristband. One dollar of every ticket and two dollars of every wristband will be donated to Special Olympics York County.
