FlipSidePA Panel weekend picks for Dec. 18

Dawn States, bookworm: Finishing up my Yuletide shopping at some cool local places such as Lemon Street Market and the Herb Shop for some gourmet goodies; Redeux for vintage finds; and finally RetroRocks to snag my nephews dinosaur themed fun!

J.J. Sheffer, loves good music and good food: My favorite thing about the holiday season is that many of our friends who no longer live in the area come back to visit friends and family. A dear friend who recently moved to Oakland, CA will be in town for the weekend, and it turns out that what he misses most about York is our big family dinners at Tutoni's restaurant. I've made a large-party reservation for this weekend and look forward to being at Chef Scott's mercy as he prepares an off-menu dinner for us and serves it family style.

Mel Conrad, caricature artist: Friday, I’ll be heading to Frank Theatres with a friend to see “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

Kate Harmon, usually downtown: I'm hitting up Christmas Magic for the very first time in 8 years of being in York-Adams. Woops.

--> Mary Yeaple, also a panelist, will be visiting Christmas Magic this weekend, too.

Mike and Sue Edmonds, will travel for fun: Sue and I are looking forward to visiting the River City Blues Club and Dart Room in Harrisburg on Monday Dec. 21 to hear the River City Big Band. They're a wonderful 16-piece jazz band, composed of some of the best musicians in the area. They get together the 3rd Tuesday of every month.  Last time I heard them they featured a vocalist who sang with the Harry James Orchestra way back in the day. Sublime.

Lyn Bergdoll, theater lady: I am attending my absolute favorite event of the holiday season, George Balachine's "The Nutcracker" at the Hershey Theatre with the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. This tradition is always magical, with gorgeous sets, exquisite costumes and magnificent dancing.
