6 things to do this weekend in York

It's the last weekend before Christmas, which means it's your last chance to finish up your shopping and holiday preparations.
But try to make time for some holiday fun, too.

From a Nutcracker Murder Mystery to a free gingerbread house craft, there's plenty of festive events to enjoy in York County.

Here are six things to do this weekend.

See the new “Star Wars”

It’s what everyone’s going to be talking about this weekend, so you might as well see it before someone spoils it for you.  Before you go, check out our interview with director J.J. Abrams’ father, who grew up in Harrisburg, about the movie.

And click through our photo gallery of fans dressed in costumes for the York premiere. It might give you a few ideas for your own costume.

Here’s a list of places to see the movie in York.

Nutcracker Murder Mystery

Sip holiday wines, snack on wood-fired pizzas and watch as a murder mystery, starring your favorite characters from “The Nutcracker,” unfolds before your eyes. This event, held Saturday at Moon Dancer Vineyards & Winery in Wrightsville, includes a four-course dinner and wine tasting. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $50. Visit moondancerwinery.com for more details.

Go shopping

Downtown shops have extended their hours for the holiday season, and many are open both Saturday and Sunday. For a list of stores’ holiday hours, click here.

Best Christmas Pageant Ever

This is the last weekend to see “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” at DreamWrights Youth & Family Theatre in York. At the show, you’ll find out if the town will survive after a group of ornery kids take over the annual Christmas pageant. Weekend show times are 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $10. Visit dreamwrights.org for details.

Decorate a gingerbread house

Bring the kids to Central Market House in York Saturday for YorKitchen’s last culinary craft of the year. Kids will have the chance to decorate (and snack on) their own gingerbread house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Visit yorkitchen.com for more information.

Get your picture taken with Santa

You can find Santa at several places in the county this weekend.

Friday: Get your picture taken, make a craft and grab a snack at Manchester’s Ace Hardware from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Saturday: Visit Santa and his reindeer at “A Very Dairy Christmas” at 90 Indian Rock Dam Road in York Township.

Sunday: Get your picture taken with Santa and his live reindeer from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Stauffers Garden Centers in Dover Township.
