5 ways to ring in the New Year in York

Whether you plan to ring in the New Year with family, friends or your significant other, there's an event in York for you.

Here are five ways to spend New Year's Eve in York.

For “Rocky Horror” fans

Put on some red lipstick and fishnet stockings. “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is coming to the Capitol Theatre, 50 N. George St., York, with live action players. The doors open at 8:08 p.m. for the pre-show party and at 9:28 p.m. for the movie. Tickets are $20 for general admission or $35 for VIP tickets, which include a movie ticket, a signature drink, an action grab bag and access to the pre-show party with food, games and a costume contest. Visit www.mystrandcapitol.org for more information and a list of what props are allowed in the theater.

For couples

Grab your partner and head to the Yorktowne Hotel, 48 E. Market St., York, for an evening of dinner and dancing with the Gettysburg Big Band. This New Year’s Eve Gala, held in the Grand Victorian Ballroom, includes a choice of three entrées, noisemakers and champagne or sparkling grape juice at midnight. Doors open at 7 p.m., and dinner is served at 7:30 p.m. The band starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $76 per person or $36 for the dance only. For reservations, contact Vera Kywa at 717-751-2475 or verakywa@2Danc.com.

McCleary’s Irish Pub, 130 W. Front St., Marietta, will also host a New Year’s Eve Dance Party from 9:30 p.m. to midnight. Call 717-426-2225 for details.

For foodies

Raise your glass to a new year at one of these three-to-six course dinners at local restaurants.

John Wright Restaurant, 234 N. Front St., Wrightsville, will serve a three-course meal, including your choice of hot smoked organic salmon, pan seared grouper, grilled filet mignon or crab stuffed chicken Chesapeake for the main entrée. Tickets are $70 per couple for the 6 p.m. seating and $90 per couple for the 8:30 p.m. seating, which includes a champagne toast and live entertainment. Call 717-252-0416 for reservations.

Wyndridge Farm, 885 S. Pleasant Ave., Dallastown, will host a New Year’s Eve Crafty Five-Course Dinner. The event, from 5 to 9 p.m., includes two crafty beverages, a cheese plate and your choice of appetizer, palate cleanser, entrée and dessert. Entrée choices include baked Brazilian lobster tail, braised pork shank with balsamic barbecue sauce, marinated venison medallions, slow-roasted prime rib and vegetable bread pudding. Tickets are $68 per person. Reservations are required. Call 717-244-9900 ext. 3.

Otto’s Kitchen & Cocktails, 19 N. George St., York, will serve a three-course dinner with special menu and champagne toast for $35. For reservations, call 717-747-1922.

Tutoni’s Restaurant, 108 N. George St., York, will kick off the night with a six-course Chef’s Dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. or 8 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person.

>> Looking for a cheaper option? Tutoni’s will also host a party in its upstairs dining area with a DJ, small-bites buffet and a fully-stocked mocktail bar for $30. The event is BYOB. To book reservations, visit tutonis.com/reservations.

For kids

Just because they can’t stay awake until midnight doesn’t mean children shouldn’t have a chance to celebrate, too. Bring your kids to Central Market House, 34 W. Philadelphia St., York, from 6 to 8 p.m. for an early celebration with complimentary hats and noisemakers, family-friendly entertainment, inflatables, photo backdrops and props, glitter tattoos and face painting. The event will conclude with a countdown to a New Year’s Eve balloon drop. Visit www.yorkcity.org/NYE for more information.

For everyone

The Times Square ball drop isn’t the only drop happening at midnight. Instead of staring at the TV, gather your family and friends in Continental Square at midnight to see the countdown, white rose drop and fireworks display, for yourself.

Or, stop by Mudhook Brewing Co., 34 N. Cherry Lane, for a pint drop at 6 p.m. and midnight. Mudhook will also offer Belgian-inspired food, giveaways, a celebration of the Belgian Dubbel craft brew and live music.

Note: Market Street from Beaver to Duke and George Street from Philadelphia to King will be closed from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. for the white rose drop. Parking will be restricted in that area beginning at 9 p.m.
