5 things to do in York this weekend, Jan. 29-31

After Winter Storm Jonas kept everyone cooped up inside last weekend, I think we're all ready to get out of the house.

Here are five events worth checking out in York.

Fifth Friday

There's a new monthly special to know about, and it's coming to York this Friday night. Five downtown bars – The Left Bank Restaurant & Bar, White Rose Bar and Grill, Otto's Kitchen & Cocktails, Mudhook Brewing Co. and Holy Hound Taproom – will offer $5 bar menus to celebrate #FifthFridayYork. These nights are all about good food and drinks, so grab some friends, head downtown and enjoy.

York Home & Garden Show

After Snowmageddon last weekend, I think we could all use a little taste of spring. And you can find it at the York Home & Garden Show Friday through Sunday. At the event, held at the Utz Arena at the York Expo Center, you'll find gardens filled with flowers in full bloom, exhibitors selling everything you'll need for your garden this spring and a Kidz Zone to keep the little ones occupied while you shop.

In A Galaxy Far Away Dance

Pull out your Darth Vader masks and lightsabers. York Social Dance Studio, 324 W. Market St., is hosting a "Star Wars" and outer space-themed dance, including a costume contest and shim sham competition. The dance begins at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Click here for details.

Spend an evening at the the theater

Find out what happens when a neighbor's Viagra pills are swapped for a pill meant to increase the libido of menopausal women during York Little Theatre's comedy production of "Sex Please, We're Sixty." Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Click here for more information.

See a movie

The Capitol Theatre's new film series in downtown York is back on track after the snowstorm postponed the first film screening last weekend. The series will continue with the movie "Marley" at 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $7. Members of the Susquehanna Valley Theatre Organ Society will play The Mighty Wurlitzer organ 30 minutes prior to the show. Refreshments, including snacks, beer and wine, will also be available.
