Share your love for York City at First Friday

February’s First Friday is all about the love – love for York, that is.

From 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 5, participating locations in downtown York will offer special discounts and/or activities centered around this month’s theme, #iloveyorkcity.

We say the phrase all the time. We put it on T-shirts and hashtag it on social media. But now, it’s time to show it by coming downtown and supporting local business.

Here’s your guide to an #iloveyorkcity-filled night.

Get some #iloveyorkcity swag

If you’re going to show your York City love, you might as well dress the part. Pick up some I Love York City merchandise, including T-shirts and rocks glasses at Cowork 155. The shop at 155 W. Market St. will give free I Love York City tote bags to the first five visitors and free I Love York City balloons while supplies last. Hot chocolate and seasonal beer samples from The Beer Ace will also be available.

Then, pop over to Hive Artspace, 126 E. King St., to pick up a free limited edition York City-themed pin, featuring artwork by a local artist. Pins will be given to the first 25 visitors.

Complete your look with an I Love York City flower crown from Foster’s Flower Shop, 27 N. Beaver St.

Celebrate at Creative York ribbon cutting

For the first time in months, Creative York will open its newly renovated gallery at 10 N. Beaver St. for First Friday. Make sure you’re there at 5:30 p.m. for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially welcome Creative York to #iloveyorkcity.

Check out My York City Art Show

Be among the first to see area artists’ visions for downtown York in this art exhibit at Marketview Arts, 37 W. Philadelphia St. Half of the money from each purchase will benefit Downtown Inc. and the Cultural Alliance of York County. A catered reception and complimentary beer from The Beer Ace will be available.

Get your chocolate fix

Everyone loves a little chocolate around Valentine’s Day. To show its York City pride, Esaan Thai Restaurant, 30 N. Beaver St., will sell house-made York Peppermint Patty gelato.  You can also find chocolate raspberry truffle tea lattes and berry bliss smoothies at Cherie Anne Designs, 48 W. Philadelphia St.; deep-fried brownies at Bair’s Chicken, 34 W. Philadelphia St.; and chocolate bar tastings at Kimman’s, 57 N. Beaver St.

Shop for V-Day gifts

What better way to show York City some love than by shopping local? Plus, you can knock out some of your Valentine’s Day shopping at the same time.

Watchmaker’s Daughter, 22 N. Beaver St., is having a “kiss sale.” Enjoy wine and sweets while you shop for jewelry for your sweetheart.

Elizabeth & West Fashion House, 15 N. Beaver St., will give the first 12 customers a rose with a discount attached, ranging from 5 to 25 percent off your purchase.

My Girlfriend’s Wardrobe, 41 W. Market St., will give away Valentines with a surprise discount inside.

Don’t forget to stop by Richard R. Reilly’s office at 54 N. Duke St., too. While it’s not a shop, you can paint a wine glass for $15 – a great Valentine’s day gift.
