Movies to see this weekend in York, Hanover


It’s a good week if you like “based on a true story” movies: Both “Race” and "The Lady in the Van" are based on real people.

In addition, “Risen” is based on the Bible and “The Witch” has dialogue based on primary sources of the 17th century. And for one more "based on" tidbit, "45 Years" is based on "In Another Country," a short story by David Constantine.

Here are the new movies opening this week at York, Hanover and Gettysburg theaters:

45 YEARS

Charlotte Rampling earned an Academy Award nomination for her role in this drama about a couple in a crumbling relationship and their upcoming 45th anniversary. Raged R. Showing at the Majestic Theater.


THE LADY IN THE VAN

Maggie Smith plays a homeless woman living in her car, who forms an unexpected bond with the man whose driveway she parks in for 15 years. Rated PG-13. Playing at Regal 13, Majestic Theater.

RACE

Stephan James stars as legendary track and field superstar Jesse Owens. Rated PG-13. Showing at Regal 13, Queensgate 13, R/C Hanover, Gettysburg 10.

RISEN

The story of the Resurrection is told through the eyes of Roman non-believer Clavius, played by Joseph Fiennes. Rated PG-13. Showing at Regal 13, Queensgate 13, R/C Hanover, R/C Gateway 8.

THE WITCH

Sinister forces terrorize a Puritan family living on the edge of  a mysterious wilderness in 1630s New England. Rated R. Playing at Regal 13, Queensgate 13, R/C Hanover, Gettysburg 10.
