Susquehannock grad competes on CMT TV show
Watch Tim Yosca, a 2002 Susquehannock High School grad, compete on “Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge" on CMT Sunday.
In the show, host Steve Austin brings eight athletes to Broken Skull Ranch to compete in various challenges. The last obstacle is the "Skullbuster," a difficult course. The winner takes home $10,000.
Yosca, 31, auditioned for the show because of a tip from his brother. After rounds of interviews, CMT flew him to LA for three days in June.
He thinks two traits set him apart from other applicants: He's a project scientist at Pennsylvania State University (not a bodybuilder, like most applicants) and he loves boy band music (and yes, he did sing a few lines of NSYNC's "Dirty Pop" in his Skype interview).
He said behind the scenes production was exhausting. He flew out on a red eye, went to multiple doctor visits and shot hours of confessionals and head shots. There wasn't much time to rest before competition.
“You get in your set position and cameras circle you like sharks for five minutes,” he said.
But, it was worth it. The show provided individual chaperons for each competitor that provided needs like hats and sunscreen. The best part, of course, was meeting Austin.
"Steve was amazing – he made sure that each competitor got their fifteen minutes of fame," Yosca said. "He took the time to try to get to know each person."
In fact, the main reason Yosca, who grew up in New Freedom, auditioned for the show was because Austin was his favorite wrestler as a kid.
"[Steve Austin] said he was proud of the way the show was going and said he thought I was a class act, a stand-up guy," Yosca said. "I’ll remember this time and this ten-minute conversation for the rest of my life."
