Wine and beer fests back to back in York

Go for the wine, stay for the beer.

The Taste of Pennsylvania Wine and Music Festival and Brew Kids on the Block beer sampling event are back to back in May at the York Expo Center infield, 334 Carlisle Ave., York. Both events will be held rain or shine and don’t forget to bring your ID.

Two days of wine

The Taste of Pennsylvania will be 1-6 p.m. May 14 and 15 when dozens of vintners from around the state will present more than 250 wines. Attendees can also purchase wine by the bottle to enjoy on site or to take home. The family-friendly weekend is also packed with entertainment by local bands and food trucks.

Baron Von Schwein, Mad Dash Concessions, York City Pretzel Company, Wilson’s Funnel Cakes, Sherri’s Crab Cakes and the Sweet Spot will be among those dishing up grub. Vendors will be offering everything from food to jewelry to home improvement services.

Tickets: Taste of Pennsylvania tickets are $25 for a single-day pass with unlimited sampling and a souvenir glass; and $30 for VIPs, who can enter the festival an hour early, at 12 p.m. Advance ticket prices are $7 less if purchased before May 7. Tickets will also be sold at the gate.

Tickets are $10 for designated drivers, who receive water, soda and a limited edition T-shirt. Admission is free if you don’t want to drink. Purchase online at cdm.ticketleap.com beginning at 9 a.m. March 11.

Tickets are expected to be available in early April at Golden Crust Pizza of Red Lion; York City Pretzel Company, downtown York; Lincolnway Flower Shop in York; Bailee's Homebrew & Wine Supplies of York; Holy Hound, downtown York; and Seven Sports Bar & Grille, New Freedom; and Quick 6 Beer and Food of York.

New brews

The Brew Kids on the Block tasting festival, 6-9 p.m. May 14, gives newer breweries the spotlight and aims for quality over quantity.

With that in mind, organizers are featuring 20 brewers to give each one more recognition, and brewers will offer four or more selections. In addition, tickets are limited to 700, so participants don’t spend their whole evening standing in line.

Confirmed participants include Aldus Brewing Company, Battlefield Brew Works, Boneshire Brew Works, Columbia Kettle Works, Crystal Ball Brewing Company, Gift Horse Brewing Company, Liquid Hero Brewery, Manu Forti Craft Beer, Tattered Flag Brewery & Still Works, Manchild Beer, and Wyndridge Farm Brewing.

Several of the food trucks will stick around from the afternoon event, plus the Sons of the American Legion 403 will have pit beef and ham sandwiches.

Tickets: Brew Kids on the Block tickets are $23 in advance, $30 after May 7, if available, and include unlimited sampling and a souvenir cup; $15 for designated drivers, who get water, soda and a T-shirt. Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. March 11 at cdm.ticketleap.com.
