Find out where to get free comic books in southcentral PA

Devoted fans as well as first-time readers can revel in Free Comic Book Day, a nationwide celebration of the genre on May 7.

A variety of titles, from superhero stories to kids' favorites to TV tie-ins, will be handed out for free. Giveaways and special events are planned at these local comic book stores:

Comic Store West, 2111 Industrial Highway, York.

Choose from more than 50 different free comic books for all ages. Take an additional free comic in exchange for a donation to the Martin Memorial Library. The shop collected more than $1,500 for the library last year.

This day’s biggest giveaway is expected to be Civil War II #0, in advance of “Captain America: Civil War,” which opens in theaters May 6.

Readers can meet local artist and writer Jeff McComsey, author of “Fubar” and a Z-Men comic, from 3-6 p.m.; take photos with the Central PA Ghostbusters and their car, Ecto-1 (weather permitting); and see local cosplayers Central PA Avengers with the Flash, Hawkeye and more.

Visitors can also listen to a Marvel movie trivia podcast at 3 p.m. with Cosmic Gepetto, and get a chance to win tickets to the Harrisburg Comic Con June 11-12.
