4 nearby spots to visit for International Museum Day

It's International Museum Day, and what better way to celebrate than to visit a nearby museum.

The International Council of Museums observes the day every May 18 to raise awareness for the culture and enrichment fostered by museums.

Here are four to check out:

Agricultural & Industrial Museum , 217 W. Princess St., York.

Part of the York County Heritage Trust, the museum contains a collection of locally made farm and industrial equipment. Make plans now to attend History Untapped: An Artisan Beer Affair, a June 11 fundraiser that will boast local food and brews with a focus on pairings. Read more about History Untapped.

Gettysburg Dime Museum , 224 Baltimore St., Gettysburg.

The newly-opened collection of oddities features a wax figurine display of the Last Supper, a voodoo alter and a room of serial killer memorabilia. Read about the three-legged duck and more.

North Museum of Nature and Science , 400 College Ave., Lancaster.

The natural history museum recreated the eco-system of the late Triassic Era for its new dinosaur exhibit, Explore the Past. The revamped and expanded dino exhibit displays fossils found regionally and examines how our locale appeared 200 million years ago. Read about the life-sized T. Rex skull and more.

Geppi’s Entertainment Museum , 301 W. Camden St., Baltimore.

The pop culture museum is showcasing Matt Crandall's "Alice in Wonderland" Collection, more than 200 pieces of memorabilia from the 1951 Walt Disney production including animation cels, design storyboards, drawings and sketches. The museum contains nearly 6,000 artifacts including comics, toys, dolls, games and memorabilia.
