Buy items featured on 'American Pickers' at York auction
A local auction will be a dream come true for fans of “American Pickers” Memorial Day weekend.
On May 28 and 30, the public will have the opportunity to bid on antiques that veteran “pickers” Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz passed up during their stop at Good Old Boy Country Auctions in Manchester Township last summer.
Bob Sholly, owner of Good Old Boy Country Auctions, appeared on the History Channel show – which follows Wolfe and Fritz as they tour the country looking to buy fascinating antiques – in December.
In 12 hours, Wolfe and Fritz picked a menu chalkboard, an ornamental cast iron, a drill press, several feed signs and a few central Pennsylvania items, including an old trunk from Hershey’s Baking Co. and a keystone-shaped inspection sign, Sholly said.
By the time they were finished, they had purchased about 55 items ranging from $10 to $1,000.
But Sholly said he still has plenty more antiques to sell.
He plans to auction off more than a thousand items throughout Memorial Day weekend, including York signs and advertisements, old cookware, chicken pens, milk crates and items from American Acme Co. in Emigsville.
“It’s all stuff I accumulated and picked myself in different areas,” he said. “I have too much of it.”
Some of the bigger ticket items include old mill wheels and Lincoln Highway Garage signs that Sholly said has garnered a lot of interest since the episode aired in December.
For a while, Sholly said his phone was ringing off the hook with callers asking about those items and others they saw on the show.
“I’ve gotten so many calls from people,” he said. “I’m trying to sell as much as I can.”
Sholly is expecting more than 300 people from across the country to attend both auctions, including a possible surprise visit from the “Pickers” themselves.
“The ‘Pickers’ know I’m having that sale,” Sholly said. “They’re going to be in York over Memorial Day weekend. There’s just a chance they might stop to visit.”
A representative from “American Pickers” was unable to confirm the visit.
The auction is open to the public and will begin at 9 a.m. both days at 545 E. Locust Lane, Manchester Township.
