Vintage clothing boutique opens in downtown York

Downtown York shoppers will soon have a new option for vintage clothing and artisan goods.

Revolt Style Studio – which has operated as a mobile boutique in the York area for about a year – will open a brick-and-mortar shop at 24 N. Beaver St. June 3.

House of Yoga, which currently takes up that space, will move to 19 W. Market St. on June 1.

You might recognize Revolt Style Studio from its pop-up boutiques at area festivals like Go Green in the City and York Flea. Owner Jessica Weikert also sells her vintage clothing and accessories at Redeux in Royal Square and her grey “York” t-shirts and handmade jewelry at Sunrise Soap Company in the Market District.

“Right now, I kind of have a different hand in different things,” Weikert said. “It’s a different selection at each place.”

But when she opens her permanent shop on North Beaver Street, she’ll have the chance to show people the wide variety in her collection all in one place.

“The brick-and-mortar store will feature an ever-changing selection of vintage clothing, accessories, home goods and artisan and craft items made by local and American designers and makers,” Weikert said. “Everything I lug out for pop-up events, it’s all of that and more.”

The best part about selling vintage goods is that every single item is unique, she said.

From clothing and jewelry to purses and hats to hand-knit picnic blankets and brass candle holders, no two items will ever be alike, she added.

“It’s not 10 of one thing, it’s 10 very different things each time.”

And her collection is always changing.

Weikert said she stocks up on new items multiple times a week at thrift stores, yard sales, estate sales and antique shops throughout the region. She also plans to buy and trade with her customers.

“Now that I have a store, customers will have the option to bring stuff they’re cleaning out of their grandmother’s house and get store credit for those items,” Weikert said.

The permanent location will also give her an opportunity to have a fitting room and allow her to help her customers style different outfits before they buy them.

“The thing I go for most when I’m looking for vintage stuff is wearability,” she said, meaning bold statement pieces from the past that can be mixed with today’s clothing and accessories. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to show people how they can incorporate vintage into their modern wardrobe. It doesn’t have to be a costume. It can accent any outfit.”

Items will typically range from $5 to $60, she said.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with a special ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for 5 p.m. during First Friday in June.
