6 things to do in York this weekend

Happy Friday, York!

Hope you get outside and enjoy some sunshine this weekend. We'll have lots of it!

From free yoga to live music to boat parades, here are six fun things to do in York County.

Free yoga and music festival

Relax under the sun at the third annual Yogis Take the Park Saturday. The free yoga festival will include workshops, outdoor yoga classes, music, kids’ crafts, food trucks and more fun activities from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at New Freedom Community Center, 150 E. Main St., New Freedom. For more details, visit www.yogistakethepark.com.

See live music

You’ve probably seen local musician Elijah Cross play at local places like Holy Hound Taproom or John Wright Restaurant. He’s a regular on the York music scene. But you might not have heard him play songs from his recently released debut album “Here’s the Skinny.”  See the pop-rock singer-songwriter perform at John Wright Restaurant Friday at 6 p.m. There’s no cover, but you’ll have to reserve a table or sit at the bar.

Willing to travel? Zac Brown Band will play Hersheypark Stadium, and Olivia Newton-John will perform at the American Music Theatre in Lancaster.

Pokémon Go Lure Party

Want to catch ‘em all? Bring your phones to downtown York on Saturday, where you’ll find lures at PokéStops throughout the city from 9:30 a.m. to noon. You might even find a few in the afternoon and evening hours. But don’t spend all day staring at your phone. While you’re in town, make some time to check out the city’s restaurants, shops, art galleries and more. Find more details here.

York’s 275th Birthday Bash

York city is celebrating a big birthday this year. 275 years! And to honor that milestone, York is hosting a birthday dinner for 550 members of the community at one long table in the center of West Market Street in downtown York at 1 p.m. Saturday. The bad news? Only the lucky individuals who found a golden ticket hidden inside Wolfgang candy bars throughout the city can enjoy the dinner. But, the event will also include live music and family-friendly entertainment like magicians, face painters and balloon twisters, so it might be worth stopping by to see all the fun. Creekfire

Live music, children’s activities, floating fire pits and an illuminated boat parade on Codorus Creek are headed to Foundry Park on Saturday for Creekfire. Bring a lawn chair and unwind by the water from 7 to 10 p.m. Can’t make it Saturday? Creekfires are held every fourth Saturday through September. Visit www.facebook.com/creekfireyork for more info.

York Beer’lympics

Maybe you can’t complete a gold medal-worthy floor routine or swim the 200-meter butterfly in under two minutes. But, I bet you can flip a cup. The York Beer’lympics is hosting an Olympics just for beer drinkers, which will include a variety of drinking games like beer pong and flip cup. The event begins at noon on Saturday at 3561 Liverpool Turnpike, Emigsville. Spectators are welcome. The best part? All of the money raised by food sales and raffles goes to the Pennsylvania Veterans Foundation. Click here for more details.
