July 4 events set in Lewes, Rehoboth, Bethany, Milton

Every year, people gather together to celebrate America declaring its independence from Great Britain in 1776. This year, several Delaware beach towns are having their own celebrations for Independence Day.

Lewes

Lewes will be having its annual Old Fashioned July Fourth celebration beginning at 9 a.m. July 4. The celebration will begin on Second Street in Lewes and will have games for kids.

The celebrations will then take to the water with the Lewes Independence Day Boat Parade. The parade will go down the Lewes-Rehoboth canal, beginning at Roosevelt Inlet and ending at Fisherman’s Wharf. Parade entrants will leave the Roosevelt Inlet across from the Coast Guard Station beginning at 1:30 p.m. and will reach the judge’s reviewing stand at Fisherman’s Wharf at 2 p.m.

The Doo Dah parade will begin at 5 p.m. and will travel down Kings Highway, onto Savannah Road and finish on Second Street.

Rehoboth Beach

In Rehoboth Beach, July 3 will be dedicated to celebrating Independence Day. The celebration will begin with the 26th Dave Reynolds Swim/Run Biathlon to benefit the Dave Reynolds Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Rehoboth Recreations Department.

From 8 p.m. until 11 p.m., the Funsters will be performing at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. They will be performing from 8 p.m. until 9:15 p.m. and will resume after the fireworks are finished and will be performing until 11 p.m.

Fireworks will begin at 9:15 p.m. and will be visible along the beach and the boardwalk.

Bethany Beach

Bethany Beach will be celebrating Independence Day on July 4. The festivities will begin with a parade, beginning at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Garfield Parkway. Registration for the parade will be held from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Floats register at Route 1 and Central Ave. Bikes check in on the Christian Church grounds. This year’s theme will be “Celebrate your right to vote.”

The celebration will continue in downtown Bethany Beach at 7:15 p.m. The Army National Guard Band of the Northeast will be performing at 7:30 p.m.

Fireworks will begin at dusk.

Milton

Milton will be having their annual Independence Day celebration beginning at 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on July 4. There will be a dunk tank, pie eating contest, train rides, relay races, sack races, chess matches and free games and activities for children.

There will also be a bike decorating contest and parade. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. Those participating in the parade must be to the Gazebo by 10:45 a.m. There will be two grand prizes, a new bike for the best decorated boy bike and the best decorated girl bike.

There will also be a pie baking contest with three different categories: professional, amateur and children under 12. The theme is "Red, White and Blue."
