The Monkees bring '60s hits to Lancaster

It's been 50 years since a pop rock quartet was introduced to television audiences with the lyrics "Hey, hey, we're the Monkeys."

And they're still monkeying around. Two members of the original group -- Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork -- will perform at 8 p.m. Aug. 28 at American Music Theatre in Lancaster.

Dolenz and Tork will carry on the Monkees' tradition, playing all the band's hits, including "I'm a Believer," "Last Train to Clarksville," "Daydream Believer" and "I'm a Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You."

The show will have a multi-media presentation with clips from their TV series, and intimate acoustic sets and solo spots for each of the singers.

The original Monkees included Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith, Dolenz and Tork. Their show, which aired from 1965 to 1968, brought a mix of pop, rock, psychedelica, Broadway, country and comedy to the airwaves. Jones died in 2012.

The American Music Theatre is at 2425 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster. Tickets, at $69, are still available at 800-648-4102 or amtshows.com.
