Former 'Voice' finalist DaNica Shirey inducted into Red Lion hall of fame

Former "The Voice" finalist DaNica Shirey returns to the spotlight Friday at her alma mater, Red Lion Area Senior High School.

After making headlines last fall as the last female standing on the NBC reality singing competition, Shirey will be recognized at Red Lion's first home football game of the season.

At 6:30 p.m., guests are invited to watch a short ceremony as Shirey is inducted into the Leo Club Hall of Fame.

The Leo Club, Red Lion Area School District's alumni association, has been inducting successful Red Lion alumni into their hall of fame for 25 years, vice president Tammy Grove said. Shirey will be the 84th inductee.

Some of the requirements to be inducted include outstanding accomplishments, volunteer efforts, service to the community and impacting the lives of others, Grove said.

"Even though she didn't come in first place, (Shirey) still represented Red Lion very well," she said. "It was a proud moment for Red Lion."

After the ceremony, Shirey will sing the National Anthem before the game. She'll also record an interview with the assistant principal that will be played for students at school.

"This is going to be a very special evening," Grove said. "It's our first home game, and we're still playing in memory of our two students who were killed in a car accident in June. This is our first game since then. It will be a very touching evening."
