Cumberland Valley School of Music Encore and Recognition concerts April 25, 26

CHAMBERSBURG >> Celebrating music performance at any age, Cumberland Valley School of Music will host two concerts April 25 and 26, showcasing more than 50 student and adult musicians, all from the area.

The Encore Musicians Concert will begin at 1 p.m. April 25 in First United Methodist Church, 225 S. Second St., and the annual Recognition Concert will be at 2 p.m. April 26 in Thomson Alumnae Chapel on the Wilson College campus, 1015 Philadelphia Ave.

Both events are free and both feature a reception afterward.

The Encore Musicians Concert is a showcase of adult musicians who live in the Cumberland Valley. The audience will hear from CVSM's New Horizons Band, a band open to those age 50 and older; the Corpus Christi Brenda's Angels; and the First United Methodist Church Merry Methodists.

Also featured will be solo performances by Harold Angle on saxophone, and tenor, Jim Martin, accompanied by his wife, Donna, on the organ.

"I am so inspired by the musicians in this concert. They are living their lives to the fullest, refusing to sit on the sidelines -- still learning, still enjoying an active social life and making music, not just listening," said CVSM executive director Paula Hepfer. "Music is an activity people can participate in throughout their lives from birth through their senior years, experiencing the many social, physical and mental benefits that music participation can provide."

The Recognition Concert April 26 is a highlight of the yearly CVSM schedule. It recognizes graduating senior students as well as recipients of the Merit Award and the Benjamin Rhine and Guarriello scholarships.

Additionally, since this is the 25th anniversary of the opening of the school, the concert will honor founding faculty members who have been teaching with CVSM since its beginning in 1990.

"We have 10 faculty members who have been with CVSM since our beginning 25 years ago," Hepfer said. "Their remarkable commitment to their students has been invaluable to the school's history and success."
