Penn State Mont Alto on May 9 to host its first choral festival

MONT ALTO >> On the heels of its spring concert last weekend, on May 9 Penn State Mont Alto Student Chorale will be joined by 170 choral performers from four area schools in Penn State Mont Alto's first choral festival.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Activities Center on campus, 1 Campus Drive.

Tickets are $5 a person and will be sold in advance through the Penn State Mont Alto Development and Admission Offices or at the door on the day of the event.

The Choral Festival will be a grand evening of musical performances, when the Penn State Mont Alto Student Chorale is joined by choral performers from Waynesboro Area Senior High School Concert Choir, Fairfield High School's Stars of the Knight Chamber Singers, Shalom Christian Academy Chorale and Gettysburg Middle School Choir.

"We're very excited to welcome some of the area's finest choral singers to the Penn State Mont Alto campus," said PSMA music instructor David Bowman. "Hosting an event like this reinforces Mont Alto's renewed commitment to choral music and would not be possible without countless hours of behind-the-scenes work from volunteer faculty, staff, administration and students."

Kathryn Miner, wife of the late John A. Miner, established the Miner Endowment for the Penn State Mont Alto Student Choir in 2013. As part of the endowment the choral group performs on and off campus.
