Towne Singers perform the classics to celebrate spring


GREENCASTLE >> From Mozart to Broadway show tunes, the varied repertoire for The Towne Singers' spring concert on May 31 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church will include music to appeal to everyone. The concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the church, located at 1186 Jason Dr., Greencastle.

The choral program will feature a mix of works including Mozart's "Ave Verum Corpus," Pablo Casal's "Nigra Sum" and Benjamin Britten's "Jubilate Deo" to spirituals composed by Andre Thomas and Greg Gilpin, and music from Broadway shows such as "Man of La Mancha" and "The Secret Garden." Soloists will include Don Dickinson, Stephen Nance, Rodney Snider, Dave Reeder, Brenda Mason and George Pensinger.

The Towne Singers, comprised of 30 singers from the Franklin County area, is directed by Dr. Blaine Shover, professor of music at Shippensburg University, and accompanied by Valerie Merriman, Chambersburg. The group has been entertaining audiences in the area for more than 40 years.

A good will offering will be taken, and the proceeds will benefit both Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and The Towne Singers. More information about The Towne Singers is available at www.thetownesingers.org.
