Hundreds enjoy Blues, Brews and Barbecue at Capitol Theatre on Saturday
CHAMBERSBURG >> After a particularly harsh winter, Lauren Cappuccio was happy to spend Saturday afternoon outdoors at the "Blues, Brews and Barbecue" event at Capitol Theatre.
"It's just a fun day to spend out with my family and enjoy some music and enjoy the weather because we've had some really gross weather, so it's kind of nice to get out and enjoy the nice weather while we can," she said.
Cappuccio was among the hundreds who spent the day enjoying the first signs of summer with a glass of crisp, cool beer and by chowing down on some barbecue.
Guests were entertained by the sounds of blues music and enjoyed a variety of barbecue treats, all while washing it down with a glass of cold beer.
Many guests brought their own lawn chairs and spent time sitting down and enjoying the music.
This was the fifth year of event and the co-chairman, Melanie Meyers said this year organizers were particularly happy with the different bands they were able to line up.
"This year we probably have the best and biggest bands that we have ever had and we (really tried) to amp it up with the bands to get a nice crowd," she said.
Rebecca Swartz and Robin Fleck attended the event for the first time this year.
"I heard about it last year and didn't get to come so I wanted to come this year for sure," Fleck said.
Jack Naugle was also a first-time attendee, along with a group of his friends.
"We are always looking for something to do downtown and we felt like this was a good opportunity to kick off our summer with something fun and outdoors," he said.
The event typically raises about $6,000 to $9,000, which Capitol Theatre puts toward general operating expenses.
