Alabama to perform at 2016 York Fair


Country band and York Fair favorite Alabama will once again bring its down-home country sound to the 2016 York Fair grandstand stage Sept. 17.

The show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., according to a news release.

Tickets are $39, $44, $49 and $54, and will be available at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 at the York Fair Box Office on Carlisle Avenue, by phone at 717-848-2033 and online at www.yorkfair.com.

The ticket price includes admission to the fair.

Here are four things to know about the band.

  1. Alabama originally performed under the name Wildcountry before changing its name in 1977.
  2. The band achieved its largest success in the 1980s, when it had seven multi-platinum albums and more than 25 No. 1 hits, including “Tennessee River,” “Mountain Music,” “If You’re Gonna Play in Texas” and “Song of the South.”
  3. Alabama has performed at the York Fair a record 24 times since 1981.
  4. Today, the band has achieved more than 40 No. 1 hit singles and has sold more than 73 million records. Alabama has also won two Grammy Awards, seven CMA Awards, eight Entertainer of the Year awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
