York filmmaker's ad could air during Super Bowl
When Super Bowl 50 airs Feb. 7, you might see a commercial by a filmmaker you recognize.
Shane Free, formerly of West Manchester Township, was recently named one of 50 semi-finalists in Doritos' annual “Crash the Super Bowl” contest – an achievement that comes with a $2,000 prize.
You probably remember Free from his November showing of “Hex Hollow: Witchcraft and Murder in Pennsylvania” at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center.
The 1995 West York Area High School graduate’s 30-second video “A Mind of its Drone” was selected from nearly 4,500 ads submitted from 28 countries, according to a news release.
The videos were judged on originality and creativity, adherence to creative assignment and overall appeal as a Doritos Super Bowl ad, according to the “Crash The Super Bowl” website.
If Free is selected by the judges as one of three finalists, he’ll win $100,000, a trip for two to Super Bowl 50 and an opportunity to work on a short-term creative project with Doritos, the website said.
The grand prize winner will be determined by popular vote. The prize includes $1 million and an opportunity to work on a creative project with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment.
Voting opens at noon Jan. 4 and ends at 11:59 p.m. Jan. 31.
The grand prize winner will be announced when the winning commercial is aired during the Feb. 7 Super Bowl broadcast.
