Details to know about the Midstate Ballet's “Nutcracker”

The Midstate Ballet of GYDance will present “The Nutcracker,” Tchaikovsky's beloved masterpiece, Dec. 12 and 13 at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center.

The dance school’s spectacular annual holiday tradition will feature professional guest artists Shea Johnson of Dallas as the Snow King and Cuban-born Eddy Tovar, a member of the Pennsylvania Ballet, as the Cavalier Prince.

Euphrosyne Avery, a ballet instructor at GYDance, will be the Sugar Plum Fairy. The role of Clara will be performed on Saturday by Abigail Miller and on Sunday by Annabelle Zengerle. The production includes a cast of nearly 100 dancers under the artistic direction of Lori Pergament.

Tchaikovsky’s classic score is set to a tale written in 1816 by E.T.A. Hoffman. The magic comes alive as Clara's dream unfolds when her Nutcracker comes to life. The fantasy sails into the Kingdom of the Sweets as she dances and greets characters from around the world.

Shows will be 7 p.m. Dec. 12 and 2 p.m. Dec. 13 in the Strand Theatre, 50 N. George St., York. Tickets are $19, $33 and $45 for adults; $15, $19 and $33 for children For tickets, call 717-846-1111 or visit www.mystrandcapitol.org.
