Gretna Theatre announces local season auditions


Equity and Open Auditions are announced for Gretna Theatre’s upcoming summer season led by Larry Frenock, Producing Artistic Director; Christian Saint-Girard, Resident Casting Director; and Renee T. Krizan, Associate Artistic Director. Although much of Gretna Theatre’s casting is done in New York, many roles are cast locally each season. Seeking strong actors/singers/dancers ages 18-plus and excellent local character actors to portray ages 40-60-plus for casting of Disney’s “Tarzan,” Tom Dulack’s comedy “Breaking Legs,” the new Broadway musical “It Shoulda Been You” and “8-Track: The Sounds of the 70’s in Concert.” Also seeking two male child actor/singers, one to play age 10 for role of Young Tarzan and one African-American to play age between 10-15 for the role of Young Terk in “Tarzan.”

All roles are available for shows that include the mob style comedy “Breaking Legs” (runs June 30-July 3), the full-scale Broadway version of Disney’s “Tarzan” (runs July 14-24, director Jason Summers, choreographer Judy Williams Henry),  the new marriage musical comedy “It Shoulda Been You” (runs July 28–Aug. 6, director/choreographer Dennis Courtney) and “8 Track: The Sounds of the 70’s in Concert” (runs Aug. 25-28). The season will also include one concert event that is already cast “Bruce in the USA: A Tribute to Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band” (running June 23–26). Also offering acting internships for four males and four females ages 17-plus for the Theatre for Young Audiences series who will perform 4individual original one-hour musicals for children with rehearsals beginning June 7 and final show on Aug. 21. Some of these interns may perform in main stage productions as well. All performances will be at the Mt. Gretna Playhouse, Mt. Gretna. Note that they cannot cast actors without an in-person audition.

Equity Performer Auditions and Open Non-Union Auditions will be held at Movement Laboratory in Lebanon, on Saturday, March 12, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Separate AEA and non-union sign-up lists will begin at 9 a.m. – unofficial lists will not be honored. Actors’ Equity Association members will be seen first and in order of arrival. Please do not call for appointments. Auditions cannot be scheduled outside this date. Final callbacks will be held on March 26 by invitation only.

Gretna Theatre will also be conducting Equity Performer Auditions, agent appointments and an open call in New York City March 14–16.
