6 family shows from 'Star Wars' to 'Annie' coming to Strand-Capitol


Your favorite childhood characters from "Cinderella," "Star Wars," "Annie" and more are coming to the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center this year for a season of family fun and entertainment.

The 2016-17 season – which opens Aug. 1 – will be filled with Tony Award-winning Broadway productions, classic holiday shows, big-name performers and family entertainment, the Strand announced Thursday night.

Mark you calendars for these upcoming shows – perfect for the whole family.

Shanghai Acrobats of the People's Republic of China – Nov. 13

One of the most competitive acrobatic companies in China will wow audiences of all ages with flips and tricks in this circus-like performance on the Strand stage.

Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood Live! – Jan. 13

Your preschoolers love Daniel Tiger on TV. Now, they can love him in person as he brings the legacy of Mister Rogers to York and takes the audience on an interactive, musical adventure filled with singing, dancing and laughter.

One-Man 'Star Wars' Trilogy – Jan. 29

Watch as Charles Ross performs voice impressions of all of your favorite "Star Wars" characters, sings the music, flies the ships and fights the battles in this one-man show that condenses the plots of the "Star Wars" trilogy into one comedic production. The show is suitable for fans from "ages 6 to Yoda," according to its website.

"Annie" – Feb. 22

Everyone's favorite redhead will light up the Strand stage with performances of musical numbers, like "Tomorrow," "It's a Hard Knock Life" and "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile."

Erth's Dinosaur Zoo Live! – March 16

The whole family can get up close and personal with a collection of life-like dinosaurs in this theatrical, entertaining and educational performance.

"Cinderella" by the Russian National Ballet Theatre – April 9

The classic fairytale, complete with a fairy godmother, a handsome prince and two evil stepsisters, will come alive on stage in this ballet performance for the whole family.

Tickets for these 2016-17 shows go on sale to Strand-Capitol members at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 6 and to the public at 10 a.m. Monday, June 13 and can be purchased at the Strand-Capitol Box Office, at StrandCapitol.org or by calling 717-846-1111.

Those purchasing tickets to two or more 2016-17 season shows will save 10 percent (or 15 percent for Strand-Capitol members), according to a news release.
