Richard Gere: About that pic of me homeless...

Look, Richard Gere gets it. He's glad you were touched by his portrayal of homeless man in his movie Time Out of Mind, but he wants you to chill with the fake Facebook posts.

Here's what happened:

A seemingly well-intentioned Richard Gere fan page posted this quote about his experience filming the movie:

"When I went undercover in New York City as a homeless man, no one noticed me. I felt what it was like to be a homeless man. People would just past by me and look at me in disgrace. Only one lady was kind enough to give me some food. It was an experience I'll never forget. So many times we forget how blessed we are. We should not take that for granted. And if we can help someone in need, we should. That's why after I was done, I walked around and gave food and $100 to every homeless person I saw. They cried and were so grateful. Be the change you wish to see in the world."

Problem is, the real Richard Gere is saying that he didn't say that. He published a message via his co-star Jena Malone's Facebook account:

"While the story that accompanied the photograph was somewhat fictional (especially the $100 hand-outs), it seemed to have touched something important in people. I'd like to find out what that is and what we can do together to make something good and meaningful happen for our homeless brothers and sisters....The film's director Oren Moverman [and] I will be taking questions live on Wednesday, 10/28 at 11AM ET right here on Jena's page, I hope you'll join us."

Stars, they're just like us -- they share Facebook logins, too!
