5 things to binge-watch Memorial Day weekend

It’s Memorial Day weekend, friends, and you know what that means! Sun, barbecues and lots of time to catch up on your shows. If you’re the type who spends the holiday weekend curled up at home with a bowl of popcorn and your TV remote, then we have some suggestions for the shows and movies that are worth watching on your day off.

1. UnREAL

With the new Bachelorette season off and running and the second season of UnREAL premiering on June 6, there’s no better weekend to catch up on the first season of the critically-acclaimed Lifetime show. It takes you behind-the-scenes of a Bachelor-like reality show where contestants are psychologically manipulated by producers with ratings agendas. How much is it actually like The Bachelor? Who cares, the fake drama on this scripted series is good enough on its own.

2. Person of Interest

You are being watched. That’s how every episode of CBS’s underrated Person of Interest starts, and we only wish that a few more people had taken a gander at the show itself. The show, which follows a billionaire and an ex-CIA operative who use the government’s surveillance system to protect ordinary people from crimes that haven’t happened yet, is wrapping up its final season on air right now, but it’s the kind of mindless-but-really-thoughtful crime procedural that will keep you entertained all Memorial Day weekend.

3. Peaky Blinders

Looking for a grittier crime drama? Maybe one with an English flair? Peaky Blinders is for you if you want to spend this sunny weekend in darkness (we know that’s true for some of you). The British period drama stars Cillian Murphy, and the third season drops on Netflix on May 31. Plenty of time to catch up on the first two before then, as each season is only six episodes long.

4. Crimson Peak

Disappointed by the reviews of Alice Through the Looking Glass? Find Mia Wasikowska in a much better, trippy fantasy movie in the form of Crimson Peak. The horror/fantasy film was acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro’s passion project, and is a gift to the many legions of Tom Hiddleston fans (we see you, Hiddlestoners).

5. X-Men: Days of Future Past

With X-Men: Apocalypse hitting theaters this weekend, the best homework you can do is watch the most recent flick, which blew up the timeline from the older X-Men films. The Apocalypse timeline is still confusing, but a trip to Days of Future Past can help.
