Kanye West tried to throw a pop-up NYC show and chaos ensued

What else did you think was going to happen when Kanye West announced a pop-up show?

West was scheduled to headline the Governors Ball music festival Sunday night, his first North American festival show since the February release of The Life of Pablo, until the festival cancelled its third day due to inclement weather.

However, West decided the show must go on. First, he stopped by another NYC music festival, the Hot 97 Summer Jam, to perform his newly-released song with his G.O.O.D Music labelmates Desiigner, Travis Scott, Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz.

Ahead of West's 39th birthday on Wednesday, he celebrated backstage with a Pablo cake.

Then, West announced on Twitter that he'd be performing another set in NYC that night.

News circulated online that he'd be appearing at Webster Hall with rapper Vic Mensa, who was also supposed to perform at Governors Ball Sunday and moved his set to the NYC venue.

Chaos ensued, with pictures and videos from the scene showing fans flooding the venue.

Kim Kardashian shared a video of West allegedly attempting to call New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio, asking him to "shut down a block of about four streets and put some screens up, so they can have a party outside, I know it's sold out already."

That didn't happen, with Webster Hall sharing the news that West wouldn't be taking the stage for a late show after all, asking the mob gathered outside to "get home safely."

West had already arrived at the venue when the concert was cancelled, and greeted fans out of his car's sunroof as he left.

On Monday morning, Kim tweeted about the chaotic night, saying the cancellation was "ultimately out of his control."

"Thank you all for coming out at 2am. Promise he will make up this pop up show," she wrote.

Later Monday, Mayor de Blasio responded to West, offering to shut down the NYC street for a good cause — throwing a block party for charity.

After premiering his new song during a radio appearance Friday, West shared that he'd be going on tour in the near future, coinciding with the release of G.O.O.D Music's new album Cruel Winter.
