Red Hot Chili Peppers' Kiedis has intestinal flu; band cancels two shows

Update: The Red Hot Chili Peppers' rep, Brian Bumbery, referred USA TODAY to a message on the band's website that says Anthony Kiedis was hospitalized Saturday night because of "complications from the intestinal flu." The post also said that RHCP "must postpone their upcoming concert for iHeart Radio on May 17th," after canceling the one on May 14. "Anthony is expected to make a full recovery soon," the message says.

Original story: The Red Hot Chili Peppers took the stage Saturday, but not to perform as scheduled. Band member Flea made an announcement about the group's lead singer.

"Anthony (Kiedis) is on his way to the hospital right now, and we're unable to play this evening. We are devastated about it," he said at the KROQ Weenie Roast festival in Irvine, Calif., which RHCP was set to headline. "Unfortunately, there's a medical thing that happened, and he needed to deal with it."

Drummer Chad Smith tweeted his well wishes for his band mate.
