Hauser Estate Winery to host Hard Cider Run


BIGLERVILLE >>Hauser Estate Winery, 410 Cashtown Road, is now participating in the nationwide fun run known as Hard Cider Run.

The hills, forest and vineyards covering the 170 acres of farmland owned and operated by Hauser on Aug. 22 will be covered with more than 1,600 runners and walkers doing this unique 5K course. There will be waves of participants starting at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., and 5 p.m.

Participants will see the apple orchards where Hauser Winery's Jack's Hard Cider is made.

Participants may run or walk, are encouraged to group into teams of four or more; teams are asked to give themselves a name.

Food will be available for purchase and the public is encouraged to visit and watch the activity for free.

There will be free parking; car-pooling is suggested.

Until Aug. 9, cost for runners and walkers is $40 plus a sign-up fee of $3; afterward, the cost is $45 plus fee. Registration, until the limit is reached, is available online at bit.ly/1eE8ZSC.

Participants will receive a glass of Jack's (or water), a commemorative glass, a T-shirt and a customized finisher's medal. Participants will also be chip timed.

Participants can pick up their packets Friday evening or beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday.
