Hershey brewery celebrates birthday with chili, new beers


Celebrate the Pennsylvania Dutch this weekend with Whoopie Pie Porter, Apple Butter Amber and boozy Birch Beer at The Vineyard & Brewery at Hershey.

For the brewery 's 2nd birthday, it's releasing those three Dutch-themed craft brews and playing host to a music festival, chili cook-off and craft beer 5K on Saturday, Aug. 15.

The gravy on all this: The Central Pennsylvania Cystic Fibrosis Association and Juvenile Diabetes Foundation will benefit from the event.

A Trail to Ale 5K and Fun Walk, which is benefiting cystic fibrosis with a $10 registration fee, will wind through the winery's 40-acre farm, starting at 9 a.m. A special beer will be available to racers midway through the race. Register here.

The patio bar opens at 10 a.m. for a kegs and eggs breakfast with Jim Folker performing.

The chili cook-off begins at noon with last year's winner, Café Fresco, facing other local restaurants' recipes. To sample craft beer pairings and the chili, guests are asked to vote for their favorite with a donation to juvenile diabetes research. And more than 30 artisans and craft vendors will also be at the event.

Take a blanket or lawn chairs to enjoy the day, as music will continue until 7:45 p.m.
