How many Tonys did 'Hamilton' win?


Hamilton has officially not thrown away its shot.

TheBroadway musical that has broken boundaries and sold-out for months took home 11 awards Sunday night, but   missed tying the record for most wins in one night. That's currently held by The Producers, which walked away with 12 trophies in 2001.

Here are all awards Hamilton won at the 2016 Tonys.

Best Musical: At the end of the night, the show took home the biggest prize of them all. "Alexander Hamilton was a dreamer. ... I stand on this stage tonight and in this theater surrounded by dreamers," the show's producer Jeffrey Seller said in the acceptance speech.  "Look around, look around how lucky we are to be alive right now," he added, quoting the show.

Leading Actor in a Musical: Leslie Odom, Jr. wins the award for bringing Aaron Burr to startling life in the show. He opened his speech with a tribute to his co-star and competitor in the category, Lin-Manuel Miranda. "Lin-Manuel, God bless you man," he said.

Best Score: Hamilton creator, writer and star Lin-Manuel Miranda took home this award on Sunday for the second time in his career. He first won it for his musical In the Heights in 2008. He referenced the shooting at the Orlando, Fla. gay club earlier on Sunday in his speech. "We rise and fall and light from dying embers, remembrances that hope and love last longer and love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love cannot be killed or swept aside as sacred as a symphony Eliza tells her story. now fill the world with music, love and pride. And thank you so much for this."

Featured Actor in a Musical: Daveed Diggs won for playing the duel roles of the Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson. He holds the record for the fastest rap on Broadway, for rapping 19 words in just three seconds in the song Guns and Ships. In his speech he brought up his father helping him with his youthful gymnastic performances. "A lot of us are here because people in our lives did that."

Featured Actress in a Musical: Renée Elise Goldsberry won Hamilton's first acting award for her performance in the musical. She plays Angelica Schulyer, Alexander Hamilton's sister-in-law and confidante. “I’ve spent the last 10 years of my life, just trying to have children," she said when she accepted the award. "And I get to testify that the lord gave me Benjamin and Brielle and he still gave me this (lifts award). Thank you. Praise God.”

Direction of a Musical: Thomas Kail grabbed this award for Hamilton, as USA TODAY Theater Critic Elysa Gardner predicted, "for telling (and casting) Hamilton's story in a way that made its genius accessible to everyone." "(Lin-Manuel MIranda) gave us a gift," he said in his speech. "My job was to deliver that gift."

Best Book of a Musical: Miranda added a second trophy to his bag just tonight in this award for the script and story of Hamilton.

Best Choreography: Andy Blankenbuehler took this trophy home for the incredible dance in Hamilton.

Best Orchestrations: Alex Lacamoire, a long-time collaborator of Miranda's, won this award for the show. He also won this same honor in 2008 for his work on In the Heights.

Best Costume Design of a Musical: Paul Tazewell nabbed Hamilton's first award of the night (during the Tonys pre-show ceremony) for his stunning Revolutionary-era costumes, ranging from the uniforms worn by Hamilton, Washington and more during the show's first act, to the sleek purple number worn by Jefferson in Act II.

Best Lighting Design of a Musical: Howell Binkley also scooped up a pre-show Tony, for the dazzling lighting of the show.
