Alternatives to driving home on New Year's Eve
If you're heading out to party on New Year's Eve, and don't want to drive home, there are options for you in York County.
Area taxi companies are happy to drive you. And Uber, the ride sharing service, has several drivers covering the county, but you'll need to download the company's smartphone app to be able to schedule a ride.
Whatever you choose, plan ahead.
"From what I understand, it's going to be busy," said Edward Creelman, a part-time Uber driver from Spring Garden Township who will be driving his first New Year's Eve shift for the company.
Fadia AbdelRahman, owner of York Cab. Co., said passengers should call two hours before they want to be picked up on New Year's Eve.
Leon Smith, operations manager for Harrisburg City Cabs and Liberty Cab, recommends calling at least 25 minutes to 45 minutes before.
"New Year's Eve happens to be a very hectic day in the cab industry," Smith said.

Buses

Liberty Cab: Contact a driver at 717-233-3331. They also have a tax-hailling app that can be downloaded from their website.
Taxi Express: Try them by phone at 717-650-2000.
York Cab: Set up a ride by calling 717-767-2900.
White Rose Taxi: Contact the company by calling 717-852-7673.
Uber
Has several drivers covering York County, including York city and Hanover. You hail drivers using the Uber app, which can be downloaded from the company's website.
To avoid higher "surge pricing" at peak demand times, get to your party early and hailing a ride home right after midnight, Uber's New Year's Eve Ride Guide suggests.
