York students learn about music careers

AK Beatz LLC at Studio 117 hosted a career exploration day Friday for York County high school students in conjunction with York County Alliance for Learning.

Eighteen students from eight schools participated at the event, said studio manager Brooke Kline.

The four-hour session included an introduction to music production and the music business, and also included some studio time, Kline said. Students ranged from those curious about the industry to aspiring recording artists and producers.

Dwayne Pinnock, a 15-year-old Central York High School student, said he's already been producing music in a basement studio at his home and wants to learn more.

Logan Scheivert, a 16-year-old Hanover High School student, said he plays drums in a band and hoped to learn more about mixing recorded tracks, something that could help him and his band-mates, who have a gift certificate to record songs at another studio in Hanover.

This was the first time the studio hosted an Alliance for Learning event, Kline said, but she and studio producers Lee King and Kendale Harris are curious to see if there will be interest in a regular music production program for teens.
